About Avalon Camps

Anyone who has seen Avalon Camps in action sees how much the children enjoy and benefit from their time with us; visiting an activity centre, being encouraged to take part in new activities or simply having that extra attention they may be missing at home for lots of different reasons – the impact on a young life is always positive.

“We see small miracles like persuading a child who declares they can only eat chocolate and strawberry sauce, to try a mouthful of spaghetti bolognaise.”

Avalon Camps is a charity based in Somerset, which gives deserving children between the ages of 8 & 9 from Hartcliffe & Withywood areas of Bristol, an opportunity to have a free holiday in the Somerset countryside. The children, who often have difficult home lives, are recommended by their teachers or care and welfare officers. Many have never left Bristol, so the camps give them the chance to do something totally different, to learn, play and sleep in the great outdoors, visit local farms and take part in new activities.

But the camps cost c.£18,000 a year and are funded entirely through donations and fundraising. Avalon Camps simply wouldn’t happen without the generosity of our supporters. Learn more about supporting the camps here.
